Prayer is the Center of Our Day

Our day revolves around the Liturgy of the Hours. Our first community gathering is for Morning Prayer at 7:15, but by that time many of us have already spent time in personal prayer, maybe had breakfast, and perhaps done some exercising.

After Morning Prayer we have some time for spiritual reading or prayer until Eucharist or Communion Service at 9:00.

We have two work periods a day, 10-12 in the morning and 2:40-4:30 in the afternoon.

After our morning work, we gather for Office of Readings at noon, followed by dinner which is our main meal. This is the one time of day we are all together and enjoy each other's company with conversation and usually lots of laughter.

After dinner we do dishes together, gather for Midday Prayer, then we have some quiet time.

After this respite, we gather again for Mid-afternoon Prayer at 2:30 before beginning our afternoon work period.

Our day begins to wind down with Evening Prayer at 5:00 p.m. Then we have some time before Night Prayer so each sister can pick up her supper, watch the news on TV or get ready for bed.

Night Prayer in common concludes our day by 7:15 p.m. Our day ends early by most people's standards - but then it starts earlier than most too!
